Change the App Language, Video Audio, or SubtitlesUpdated 4 days ago
There are three separate language settings in the app, and they don't change together — you may need to set each one on its own:
App language — changes the menus and text throughout the app.
Video audio language — changes the dubbed audio track for the episode you're watching.
Video subtitle language — changes the subtitle/caption language for the episode you're watching.
Subtitle size or color — changes how subtitles look, not what language they're in.
Use the section below that matches what you're trying to change.
1. Change the App Language
This changes the text and menus throughout the app. It does not automatically change the audio or subtitle language of the video you're watching — see the sections below for those.
Steps:
Open the app and tap the trigram symbol ☰ in the bottom right corner.
Select Language from the menu.
Choose your preferred language from the list.
2. Change the Video Audio Language (Dubbing)
Steps:
Start playing an episode.
Tap the Audio & Subtitles icon on the video player.
Select the Audio tab.
Choose your preferred language from the list. (The list may not fully fit on screen — scroll up or down if you don't see your language right away.)
Note: Not every episode is dubbed in every language yet. If your language isn't listed, check When The Chosen Will Be Available in Your Language to see what's currently available.
3. Change the Video Subtitle Language
Steps:
Start playing an episode.
Tap the Audio & Subtitles icon on the video player.
Select the Subtitles tab.
Choose your preferred language from the list. (Scroll up or down if you don't see your language right away — the full list isn't visible at once.)
Note: Looking to change subtitle size, font, or color instead of language? See Section 4 below.
4. Change Subtitle Size or Color
This is separate from the Audio & Subtitles panel above — subtitle appearance lives under Settings instead.
Steps:
Start playing an episode.
Tap the Settings (gear) icon on the video player.
Under Subtitle Settings, select Font Size or Font Color.
Choose your preferred option.
Still not finding your language, or subtitles not appearing at all?
Some languages are still being added — visit When The Chosen Will Be Available in Your Language for the latest status. If subtitles aren't showing up at all, make sure they're turned on in the player and check both the app's and your device's caption settings, then restart the app if needed. You can also use the Give Feedback option in the app menu to let us know.
