Change Subtitle Size, Style, and AppearanceUpdated 2 months ago

If subtitles or captions feel too small or hard to read, you can customize how they appear on most devices. Options vary slightly depending on whether you’re watching on a phone, tablet, or TV.

Change Subtitles on iPhone or Android (Mobile)

On mobile devices, you can fully customize subtitle size and appearance directly in the app.

To adjust subtitle size and style:

  1. Start playing an episode
  2. Tap the screen to show playback controls
  3. Select Audio & Subtitles
  4. Choose Options (or Subtitle Settings)
  5. Adjust:
    1. Text size (up to 400% larger)
    2. Font style
    3. Text color
    4. Background color
    5. Opacity

Changes apply immediately and will be used for future videos.

This is the best option if subtitles feel too small or difficult to read.

Change Subtitles on TVs (Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV)

On most TVs, subtitle appearance is controlled by both the TV device settings and the app.

If subtitles look too small:

  1. Start playing a video
  2. Open Audio & Subtitles in the player
  3. Turn subtitles on

Then check your TV’s system settings:

  • Roku: Settings → Accessibility → Captions
  • Apple TV: Settings → Accessibility → Subtitles & Captioning
  • Fire TV: Settings → Accessibility → Closed Captions
  • Android TV: Settings → Accessibility → Captions

From there, you can usually change:

  • Text size
  • Font style
  • Background or outline

Note: Some TVs limit how much subtitle size can be increased compared to mobile devices.

Why Subtitle Behavior Can Look Different on TV vs Mobile

TV platforms handle subtitles differently depending on the device manufacturer and operating system. While mobile devices allow more in-app customization, TVs often rely on system-level accessibility settings.

If subtitles still appear small on TV, adjusting the device’s accessibility settings is usually the most effective solution.

Are Subtitles and Languages Still Supported?

Yes. All subtitles, dubbed audio, and language options are still available. This update did not remove language support.

If subtitles aren’t appearing:

  • Make sure subtitles are turned on in the player
  • Check both app and device caption settings
  • Restart the app if needed

Something Still Doesn’t Look Right?

If subtitles are still difficult to read or not behaving as expected:

  • Restart the app
  • Make sure the app is fully updated
  • Use the Give Feedback option in the app menu

Your feedback helps us improve accessibility across devices.
