When creating an account in The Chosen app, you’ll notice we now ask for your Date of Birth. This step helps us comply with privacy laws, app store requirements, and ensures we’re creating a safe, age-appropriate experience for all our viewers.
When Will I Be Asked for My Birth Date?
You may be prompted to enter your birth date:
- During Sign-Up: when creating a new account for the first time
- When Logging Back In: if you’ve been logged out, force-quit the app, or reopened the app after an update
- When Updating Your Account: if our Terms of Service or Privacy Policy changes, or if you're a returning user who hasn't previously entered a birth date
This applies to all users, including those who have already created accounts prior to this update.
How to Enter Your Date of Birth
Mobile App:
- Open The Chosen app.
- On the sign-up or birthday confirmation screen, locate the Date of Birth field.
- Tap the field to bring up the date picker.
- Enter your birth date in the format: mm / dd / yyyy.
- Tap Accept and continue.
Note: We only collect your birth year to comply with data and privacy laws. Your information is never used for marketing or sold to third parties.
Minimum Age Requirement: You Must Be 18 or Older
To create an account with The Chosen, you must be at least 18 years old.
If you enter a birth date that indicates you are under 18:
- You will see a message that says “Age Requirement Not Met.”
- The screen will explain that you don’t meet the minimum age requirement.
- You’ll be given the option to Continue as Guest, which allows you to watch episodes but does not create a personal account.
Why Do We Need Your Birth Year?
We ask for your birthday because:
- Many countries have laws (like COPPA, GDPR, and others) that require age verification for digital services.
- App stores (like Apple and Google) require us to follow age-restriction guidelines for content access.
- It ensures we offer a compliant, safe, and secure user experience for everyone.
